Cybersecurity Teams Face New Questions as Companies Deploy AI Agents
Share:

As businesses connect AI agents to internal systems, cybersecurity teams must assess not only the model’s output but also the permissions and actions available to the software. An agent that can read files, send messages or modify business records creates a different risk profile from a chatbot that only answers questions.

Organizations can reduce exposure by granting the minimum permissions required, isolating sensitive systems, logging tool calls and requiring human approval for financial or irreversible actions. Testing should include malicious prompts, unexpected inputs and failures in connected services.

Incident response plans should identify who can disable an agent, revoke its credentials and restore affected data. Vendors and internal teams also need clear responsibility for monitoring and updates.

The growth of AI tools creates productivity opportunities, but secure deployment depends on governance and technical controls that evolve with the system’s capabilities.
