Nexus Mods, a major repository for PC game modifications, is requiring creators to disclose whether artificial intelligence was used in new uploads. The Verge reported on November 4 that AI-assisted submissions will also need a public explanation of how and where the technology contributed.
The platform says it is not imposing a blanket ban on AI-generated work. Instead, it is making labels more visible and giving users clearer information about how a modification was produced. The policy reflects a wider challenge for online platforms: users want transparency without necessarily excluding every work that uses generative tools.
For creators, disclosure requirements may add a small publishing step but can also help establish trust with audiences. For platforms, the challenge is to define useful labels that distinguish AI assistance, generated assets and human-led work.
The change is part of a broader debate about attribution, moderation and the role of AI in digital creative communities.
